1st Texas Soldier 1862
(Antietam Campaign)

This stalwart soldier of the 1st Texas Infanty; part of John Bell Hood's famed Texas Brigade fight amids the broken stalks of David R. Miller's Cornfield on the morning of September 17th 1862. The 1st Texas would lose 82% of their number in this battle. The highest percentage of killed of any regiment in the entire Civil War. The 1st Texas also lost both of it's colors. A Texas state flag and a St. Andrew's Cross Battle Flag that would be found later that monring by a Union Soldier. The flags were surrounded by no less than 13 dead Texans who fought to save their precious banners.
