Two
Soldiers of the
14th Brooklyn
14th
New York State Militia 1862 Period.
This is
a study of two soldiers of my personal favorite fighting Regiment
of the Civil War. The fighting 14th Brooklyn. This study is
based on research and and examination of original surviving
Civil War period uniforms of the 14th N.Y.S.M. that are currently
housed in the New York State Archives as well as a private
collection. One interesting detail that was not formally known
about is that apparently a few of the chasseur tunics worn
by this regiment had a thin line of red piping at the base
of the neck collar. Only one surviving jacket has this piping.
However, photographic evidence seems to indicate that at least
a few other members of the regiment had this type or similar
embellishments on their jackets.
