About The Artist
Mark Maritato's passion is to recreate on canvas what is brought to life
within the mind when one reads about, or explores our nations history.
Combining diligent research and an undying of painting, Mark Maritato excels
in bringing true-to-life realism to his canvas. Since he was a boy, Mark
Maritato has shown remarkable talent in recreating historical events he
would read about through his detailed pencil drawings.
It was his love for drawing and history has led Mark Maritato to pursue a
career in art. He formally studied painting and Illustration at Pratt
Institute in Brooklyn NY. It was at Pratt where he honed his talent through
long studio painting sessions and hours of anatomy study. Mark studied under
the tutelage of working professors and Illustrators like Joseph A Smith; Sal
Montano, Don Albright, Peter Fiore, and Tom Lapadula.
It was when he was a student that Mark first began to paint military
Historical subjects. His first major battle scene was "Heart of Texas" which
depicts the Confederate 1st Texas Regiment in their desperate fight in D.R.
Miller's Cornfield during the battle of Antietam. Since then, Mark has
created many Historic military scenes and continues to work diligently on
his craft. "y belief is that you must do your research to get the details
right. To attempt a historical piece of artwork with out doing your homework
is not doing the people you are trying to portray the justice they deserve.
It is only fair to them that I, as an artist, do my best to get their story
as correct as possible. I want future generations who view my paintings to
have an accurate visual portrayal of the event."
Many of
Mark Maritato's original Paintings now reside in various private
collections around the United States. Mark Maritato's original
masterworks have steadily gained interest among private collectors

to detail. All of Mark Maritato's oils are painted using only
the highest quality paints and materials. His formal training
comes through in every painting he creates; following in the
tradition of the world’s finest masters in historical art.
