Battle of Gettysburg Pennsylvania
July 2nd, 1863
Amidst a desperate and sometimes hand-to-hand struggle to maintain their crucial position on the extreme left flank of the Union line; the 20th Maine Infantry had run so low on ammunition that they were unable to withstand another assault. Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain ordered his men to fix bayonets and charge down the rocky slope of Little Round Top into the faces of the 15th Alabama commanded by William C. Oates. This Painting captures the immortal charge here with uncompromising attention to detail.
