Stand
147th New York Volunteer
Infantry
July 1st, 1863
This painting depicts the 147th New York Infantry
of the Union First Corps holding the line against a Confederate
onslaught from three directions. Pinned down and without support,
the "Plow Boys" held their position until ordered
to fall back. The 147th went on to fight the remainder of
the battle with no no food rations. During the 1/2 Hour battle
the 147th lost 207of the 380 men present.
