Battle of Gettysburg Pennsylvania
July 2nd, 1863


Brigadier General William Barksdale on horseback, urging the men of his all Mississippi brigade forward; with hat off, in front of his old regiment, the 13th Mississippi Infantry. General Barksdale's charge destroyed the Union lines along the Emmitsburg Road and Peach Orchard salient. Although Barksdale was mortally wounded in the assault his charge would go down in history as the Grandest charge of the entire war.
