Here we have a watercolor and gouache study of a soldier of the 74th New York Infantry (Civil War). Company A of this regiment was outfitted in a full Zouave uniform as shown here that was almost an exact copy of the French Imperial Guard Zouaves. The 74th was the fifth regiment of the all New York Excelsior Brigade commanded by General Dan Sickles at the Battle of Gettysburg.
