This painting was commissioned by the Monmouth battlefield Park in New Jersey for the 2013 relaunch of their newly remodeled visitors center as one of 7 Paintings done specifically for that project. This painting shows Dr. William Read as he attends to wounded British Grenadiers on the morning after the battle of Monmouth. Read Describes: “At the summit of the hill… lay fifty or sixty grenadiers - some dead, some alive, calling for ‘help!’ ‘Water!’ uttering the most dreadful and severe imprecations on ’the rebels’.” - Dr. William Read.
